About My Approach

Ellie Miller, Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Maryland and Virginia. License #20386

I help sensitive, anxious women who are exhausted from overthinking everything. Over the past decade, I’ve studied, practiced, and taught mindfulness-based and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) tools for anxiety, emotional regulation, and resilience, practical strategies that actually help when your thoughts won’t shut up and your chest feels like a fist.

I do this work because I know how exhausting it is to feel deeply and overthink everything.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I bring both clinical training and real-world experience into this work, so you’re not just talking about your thoughts, you’re learning how to respond to them in a different way.

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) in Maryland and Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Virginia
Master of Social Work (clinical focus), University of Maryland School of Social Work
Licensed since 2014 • Private practice since 2018
100+ hours advanced training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

What therapy with me is actually like

Therapy with me is:

  • Practical tools to ease anxiety(you’ll learn tools you can use in real life)

  • Gentle and non-judgmental

  • Focused on helping you feel less stuck in your thoughts

  • A mix of insight and actionable strategies

We won’t just talk about your thoughts, we’ll practice how to respond to them differently so they don’t run the show.

Common questions about overthinking, anxiety, and high sensitivity

  • This is a really common form of anxiety and overthinking.

Your brain is trying to figure out if you said the “right” thing or prevent something uncomfortable from happening again.

The problem is, it keeps you stuck in a loop instead of helping you move on.

  • Overthinking is usually your brain trying to solve uncertainty or avoid making a mistake.

It can feel productive in the moment, but it often leads to more stress, self-doubt, and mental exhaustion.

  • If you’re someone who’s naturally aware of others and sensitive to your environment, your brain is more likely to scan for how you’re coming across.

That can turn into constantly second-guessing yourself or feeling like you have to get things “just right.”

  • Being a highly sensitive person usually means you process things more deeply- emotionally, mentally, and even physically.

You might pick up on other people’s moods easily, feel things more intensely, and need more time to reset.

It’s not a flaw, but without support, it can lead to overthinking, emotional overwhelm, and feeling drained.

  • Yes. Therapy helps you understand what’s driving the overthinking and gives you practical ways to step out of the loop.

The goal isn’t to get rid of thoughts completely, but to feel less stuck in them and more grounded in your day-to-day life.

  • We slow things down, look at how your mind tends to work, and practice responding differently so you don’t get stuck in the same loops.

  • You don’t have to be falling apart to benefit from therapy. A lot of people who look “fine” on the outside are dealing with constant overthinking, pressure, and emotional exhaustion underneath. If your mind never really shuts off, you replay conversations, or you feel on edge even when things are going well, therapy can help you feel more calm, grounded, and in control.
